J.C. Newman Cigar Company

We’ve been lucky to collaborate with the incredibly kind family at JC Newman Cigar Company on a number of projects over the years. We worked with designer Alex Kalita of Common Bond Design on her stunning restoration and renovation of a Tampa landmark: the 110-year-old El Reloj cigar factory, the only remaining working cigar factory in Ybor City. It was an honor to be part of JC Newman’s 125+ year history! We added hand painted touches throughout the factory: embellishments on a retail display case with portraits of Judge Wright and Cuesta Rey; a much-larger-than-life mural of a flowering tobacco plant in the gift shop, a historic cigar logo and Ybor City chickens in the hand-rolling room, a reproduction ghost sign of a Judge Wright cigar ad behind the reception desk, and two restroom indicators based on old cigar labels.
