CURATORS
Within our Signature Room, we explore the magical power of art and design to time travel across centuries. Our murals, wallpapers, tile, and decorative finishes are inspired by history; working with traditional pattern forms and crafts to create new, original art in conversation with historic design. Each of the antique design books featured in our room influenced the design motifs used on the hand painted hutch and ceramics throughout (can you find the common threads??). The hutch is inspired by early American painted furniture, and features our founder Melanie’s dog (Spoons) in lieu of the traditional unicorn. We’re calling it the Chiweenicorn.
The jacquard fabric on the lampshade and Eastlake chair (an antique from the late 1800s) is our Eligans pattern, which was itself inspired by Eastlake/Arts and Crafts-era design.
In our mini room-within-a-room, if you look carefully, you’ll find many of the elements from the human scale shrunk down, including the beautiful Kudzu wallpaper, the Milk Shop Studios table, the hand painted tiles, and the historic design that inspired them.

CUSTOM FURNITURE
Milk Shop Studios offers a wide range of custom woodworking services, including custom furniture, cabinetry, and more. For our Signature Room, Milk Shop created and fabricated the beautiful central dining table, miniature table, and monumental central hutch, with inset reverse-gilded mirrors and hand painting by Lonesome Pictopia.
Milk Shop Studios is Tanner Englehardt and Chris Lindholm, long time friends with a shared interest in crafting cohesive environments that reflect the virtues of their clients and themselves. They offer interior design and custom furniture design and fabrication in Portland, Bend, and beyond!
A PLACE IN THE SHADE
CUSTOM LAMPSHADES
Leta Troka hand stitches and hand beads gorgeous, elaborate custom lampshades on frames welded by her partner, Matt. She often uses vintage deadstock trims and fabrics, creating pieces that are truly unique and timeless.
For our Signature Room, Leta created both full-size and miniature lamps with a deep sensitivity to the pattern forms in the fabric, designing bespoke shapes for the lampshades to perfectly align with the pattern. The additional fabrics and trims are vintage, and all the beautiful beading was done by hand.
Every lampshade that Leta creates is a unique work of art, inspired by historic lampshades but fully present in the present.
